Golf is a Game of Power - Evolution or Technology?

Today's playing professional hits the ball a country mile. Is this due to the ever-advancing golf balls and revolutionary drivers - or is it the evolution of man? However you choose to look at it, golf is 'getting easier'. Today's playing professional hits the ball a country mile. Is this due to the ever-advancing golf balls and revolutionary drivers - or is it the evolution of man? However you choose to look at it, golf is 'getting easier'. Let's consider the evidence before we storm the R & A and demand that we revert back to hickory shafts and rubber balls. Yes, admittedly, the likes of Tiger and company are very good; however, they have a big advantage over us poor amateurs! They have swing coaches, psychologists, personal fitness trainers, not to mention clubs and balls made to their specific needs. It would be interesting to see what score they would shoot around your local municipality on a windy/rainy January morning (probably the course record). For us mere mortals, golf is indeed a completely different 'ball game'. My opinion has no standing in the world of golf. I don't have a degree in sports marketing. What I am, however, is an experienced good golfer (three handicap). There will be people who disagree - but for me golf is definitely NOT getting easier! The average handicap in the UK is still the same as it was ten years ago, the slice is still common on the links, and three putts on a green is not as rare as some might think. That is not through a lack of talent - and with the so-called technology available today, I find it odd that everyone doesn't improve every year they play! The truth is, people are not getting any better - technology has been developing exponentially and will continue to do so. Let the pros play their different game (pun intended) and we shall play ours. Fellow Golf Nutters, continue to use the ever-advancing sticks and balls - but if you're serious about becoming a better golfer, then please consider a golf lesson. On doing so, be sure to ask someone to recommend a pro - because like all things in life, there are some good golfing coaches, some bad coaches, and some great coaches.
