Knowing the techniques for fast potty training, while doing it in a consistent manner, is important. Otherwise, the whole experience will be tortuous for both toddler and parent. This article provides a few helpful tips to get both of you started.

Potty training usually starts at the age of around two to three, with some as early as 18 months. Generally, young girls will start earlier than boys will. A toddler will not be ready for toilet training unless he or she demonstrates some cues that he or she is interested in going potty. Some of the cues will be pulling their clothes, telling you that their diapers are wet or dirty, and crossing legs or holding their crotch area.

Once your toddler is ready for potty training, there are some tips that can be of immense help. In this article, I would like to share with you some ideas and knowhow for fast potty training.

Once your child starts showing interest in toilet training, get a small potty for your toddler. A small potty will make the training less intimidating. Give your child proper instruction on using it. You can also use interactive potty training books so that the training process is fun and interesting.

Use rewards as positive reinforcement tools, such as with a potty training chart. A potty training chart is a chart of progress for a child, and works as a type of reward system. You can start by putting stickers on the chart for sitting on the potty. After a while, give stickers only when your child uses the potty. Finally, offer a small toy as a reward for three accident-free days or when your toddler completes a chart. These charts come in different sizes, with lots of colors and different characters.

One important tip for fast potty training is not to punish or yell at your child if there is accident. Your child will feel pressured, and it will become harder for him or her to use potty when needed. This will lead to regression. You must prevent the process from turning into a nightmare.

Another good training tip is to familiarize your toddler with the special potty that you bought for him or her. Just by sitting on it, even though there is no bowel movement or urination, can help to prevent any battle that might occur during the toilet training, especially when you are training your child during his or her 'terrible twos'. So keep cool and make sure your toddler is familiar with his or her potty before you begin. By watching a potty training video or reading a toilet training story, your child will have a good idea about the function of the potty.

Knowing the techniques for fast potty training, while doing it in a consistent manner, is important. Otherwise, the whole experience will be tortuous for both toddler and parent.
